Our story

Made by a dad of three

HapyTask started with a magnet chore chart on our fridge and one simple wish: help kids own their chores, and make it fun enough that they want to.

Where it began

It started on our fridge

I’m Ted. I’m a designer by trade and a dad of three young kids, so our house is busy, loud and full of little jobs that need doing.

For a long time, chores were a daily negotiation. I asked, I reminded, and then I asked again.

So we stuck a magnet chore chart on the fridge, and the kids loved it. They could see their jobs, move a magnet when one was done, and feel proud of their progress. It worked for a while because it was visual and it was fun.

I wanted something that kept the fun of the fridge chart and made everyday routines easier for our family. The kids could see what needed doing, check things off and celebrate their progress.

So I did what designers do and built the tool I wished we had. In HapyTask, kids see today’s chores and tap when they’re done. A grown-up approves each one, and coins land in their wallet to spend on outfits and backgrounds for their buddy. The arcade of learning games only opens once the day’s work is approved.

It’s the fridge chart my kids loved, with a little more magic and a lot less nagging.

What I care about

Four ideas I keep coming back to every time I sit down to work on HapyTask.

  • Accountability first

Chores come before play. The arcade only unlocks once every chore due today has been approved by a grown-up. Finish the job, then have fun.

    • Chores before games
    • Parent approves each one
  • Fun that teaches

Math Whiz grows from adding within 10 to fractions and percentages, with hints instead of timers. Memory Match covers animal habitats, upper- and lowercase letters, and letter sounds.

Kids join your family with a short code from your app, so they never need an email address. Their screens have no links out and never a buy button.

    • No ads
    • No tracking
    • No chat
  • Built for real families

Invite a co-parent so either of you can approve chores. Each child gets their own chores, coins and buddy, and everything stays in sync on iPhone and iPad.

HapyTask Pro is planned for families with more than one child.

A note from Ted

Chores were never really about a spotless house. They’re how kids learn that their effort matters and that they’re part of a team. I built HapyTask for my own three first. If it helps your family get there with a little less nagging and a few more high fives, that makes me one hapy dad.
